#Highly Sensitive People: Do your actions contribute to your happiness?

Do your actions contribute to your happiness? Shouldn’t everything you do be a building block to your overall happiness? If not, why not?

Everyone has the capacity to be happy. It’s not an inherited trait. Choices throughout our lives determine our level of happiness. Be careful of your choices, the actions you take and not take. Highly sensitive people have the unique capacity to intuitively know the consequences, good and bad, of their choices. Do you tap into this power?

Here are some of my thoughts for contributing to happiness:

* Mindset– Get into the habit of having a positive outlook on life. I know this is difficult when there are many negative influences that can make you cynical of people and life in general. It’s impossible to not be affected by daily news or people you don’t feel good about. It’s important that you know what’s going on in the world, but it should not cloud your view of life. I choose to look for the positive and be wary of the negative. I find it’s much easier to get up in the morning and have a good day when I have a positive mindset.

* Good selfishness– We’ve been taught that putting our interests before others is wrong. This is particularly true for woman, who sacrifice their dreams and ambitions to help others achieve theirs. It’s good to help others, but we HSPs need to set boundaries to protect ourselves from being manipulated or abused by others. If you don’t look after yourself, physically and emotionally, you won’t have a balanced life that contributes to your happiness as well as the happiness you can give to others.

* Self time– We highly sensitive people need our space! It’s crucial to our well-being to schedule alone time to re-charge our batteries and to think about what we want and need. I mention the word “schedule” because it’s too easy to go through our lives and burn ourselves out by not taking this important time we need.

* Listen to yourself– All feelings are good. Every feeling we have is giving us guidance. Our tendency is to distract ourselves from unpleasant feelings. This will prevent you from staying away from negative influences and behavior that will enable you to make poor choices. As I said previously, your choices will determine the happiness you have.

Do your actions contribute to your happiness? I’m interested in any thoughts or comments that you have.

I like your advice, but right now I feel so powerless over my life that it’s hard to think about choosing to be happy. But I still have the hope to be happy some day!

      Hi Valentina,

I understand how you feel. We all have difficult times in our lives, but we can’t lose hope. Look for little things to be happy about. There’s no reason to put off your happiness until the future. Make sense? I hope his helps you.
