What Are You Afraid Of?

What are you afraid of? I’m afraid of many things. They include filling out forms, taking tests, looking foolish, being in social situations where I don’t know anyone, having a helpless feeling where I feel that I’m not in control, and many other ones that are too numerous to mention.

Can you relate to any of my fears? I’m sure you can. Fear is a common emotion that’s not limited to highly sensitive people. Everyone has their share of things that cause them high anxiety.

When you think about it, the word “control”or lack of it, causes most of our fears. We have more control over our lives than we think. I can ask for help to fill out forms. I can better prepare for taking tests and not put the pressure on myself to be “perfect”.  I can not care about looking foolish, because people only care about themselves. I can ask people about themselves when I’m in a group of new people. People love to talk about themselves!

See, there’s nothing to be afraid of! We do have more control over our lives than we think. Why don’t we spend more time enjoying and not care about what we are afraid of?

  1. I am afraid of being overbooked. So I don’t commit to things in case I want to back out! problem is, I miss opportunities when I act like that. I need alot of free space. Sometimes I thik I should break this habit but then, why if I’m happy this way? It’s a cycle of “shoulds, ought-to’s, and regrets”…

      You are free to make the choices that best meets your needs. Change in thinking and habits are a gradual process. If you feel you’re missing opportunities, try to take small steps and go above your comfort zone. You’ll be surprised at what you can accomplish.
